Potential of damage accumulation during segmented rotor blade fatigue tests

چکیده

Abstract Modern wind turbines have higher rated power and improved capacity factors. This results in very long slender blades which are also designed closer to the material limits. As a consequence, blade test facilities need be upgraded for static fatigue full-scale testing carry larger loads deal with tip deflections. Another aspect is adaption of methods avoid high overloads, can cause premature damage require time-consuming repairs. One drawback traditional tests full-length rotor time needed certification as low eigenfrequencies hence durations. work presents an alternative approach combines segmented tests, each contributing accumulated damage. The proposed benchmarked by means numerical optimization study. applying this current offshore design illustrates potential reducing duration 66% local overload mere fraction.

A Qualitative Study Of The Effect Of Fatigue Damage Growth On Helicopter Rotor Blade Modal Parameters

Structural damage in materials evolves over time due to growth of fatigue cracks in homogenous materials and a complicated process of matrix cracking, delamination, fiber breakage and fiber matrix debonding in composite materials. In this study, a finite element model of the helicopter rotor blade is used to analyze the effect of damage growth on the modal frequencies. Phenomenological models o...

Effects of multiple blade interaction on the containment of blade fragments during a rotor failure

A finite element analysis is used to study the impact and the containment aspects of rotor blade fragments that are produced during a aircraft jet engine rotor failure. The impact and containment studies are performed on a ring-type containment structure and various fragment types are considered in this study. For each type of fragment, the ring thickness is varied incrementally and the ring re...

Fatigue Life Prediction and Strength Degradation of Wind Turbine Rotor Blade Composites

Wind turbine rotor blades are subjected to a large number of highly variable loads, but life predictions are typically based on constant amplitude fatigue behaviour. Therefore, it is important to determine how service life under variable amplitude fatigue can be estimated from constant amplitude fatigue behaviour. A life prediction contains different elements: the counting method, formulations ...

Model of flexural fatigue damage accumulation for cortical bone.

Analytical models that predict modulus degradation in cortical bone subjected to uniaxial fatigue loading in tension and compression are presented. On the basis of experimental observations, damage was modeled as self-limiting for tension but not for compression. These mechanistic uniaxial damage models were then developed into a model for flexural fatigue of cortical bone based on laminated be...
